The Voltage:

Are you tired of cooking rice in a pot and ready for something more hands-off that gives you options? If so, you should take a look at the GoveeLife Rice Cooker, which has 6-1 functionality and access to an app that makes your life easier by giving you the ability to customize your cooking to fit exactly what you are trying to do! This smart rice cooker will make the chore of cooking more convenient and take the guesswork out of making amazing rice! To learn more, please continue reading my review of the GoveeLife Rice Cooker!

The GoveeLife Ecosystem

GoveeLife Rice Cooker

GoveeLife was developed in 2023 to branch out from its parent brand, Govee. GoveeLife's plan of action is the development and implementation of smart appliances that will make its customers' lives easier and more convenient. Though these brands are separate, products from both can be simultaneously controlled in one app. This creates a very practical and easily accessible app that allows you to make these appliances from Goveelife work for you in a manner that makes one's life more fluid in today's world.

The app is called Govee Home, and the software lets you control many aspects of the different products that are available. I find the app very intuitive and easy to use, so it never hinders my ability to have the products do what I need them to do when I need them to do it! I go in-depth on this in my reviews of the other two Govee products, which are the GoveeLife gooseneck kettle (Click Here for the review) and the GoveeLife diffuser (Click Here for the review).

GoveeLife Rice Cooker Review

GoveeLife Rice Cooker Steamer

When I first opened up the package, I was like Wow, this thing is big, and to be fair, I have never owned a rice cooker other than the Aroma Rice Cooker I've used up until now, so there's that. I do have to say I really enjoyed steaming my veggies in the Aroma, so I was really happy with the size of the steamer that came with the GoveeLife Rice Cooker. This rice cooker also came with a rice measuring cup, rice scoop, condensation collector, and a soup spoon.

The first time I used it, I was a little concerned about my measurements because I was used to using a more compact rice cooker, however, I do have to say the rice came out perfectly well on the first go. I did notice that it definitely took longer to cook the rice, but perhaps that is from the size of the rice cooker itself.

Whenever I cook rice, I normally put 2 scoops of rice into 2 & 1/2 cups of water and that comes out really good for me anyhow.

This rice cooker says that it is a 6-1 cooker, which includes rice, sauté, steam, slow cook, DIY, and scale. This makes this a very versatile kitchen appliance that gives you the room to be creative during your cooking endeavors, as well as makes one of my favorite things, which are one-pot meals hehehe. To be completely open, however, I do want to say that I mostly use this rice cooker to cook.....rice for the most part.

My partner and I have dabbled in cooking other things, such as rice with beans and chicken with steamed broccoli in the steamer basket. For the most part, it came out really good, but I will tell you might wanna get the skinless chicken because the skin came out rather chewy (unless you're into that kinda thing), but everything else came out great!

The steamer basket that comes with the rice cooker is great, and I can fit a lot of vegetables inside the tray all at once without having to try and cram the top down shut like I used to have to do with my old Aroma (overfilled that bad boy from time to time). I have not used the steaming setting because whenever I steam veggies, I normally cook rice at the same time, so I leave it on the rice setting, and it works out as a 2-for-1 setting for me.

The scale setting is a nice addition to this rice cooker because it will give you a little more precision with your cooking if you have to cook something that needs to be that precise. If you're in a pinch, you can just use the setting on the rice cooker itself, but just a heads up, it defaults to grams, and the way you reset the weight is by hitting the scale button again. However, if you have the app open, you can break it down from grams to ounces and pounds, and it also has a reset button on it, so you can do it all from the app!

The last thing I want to cover is that I observed while using this GoveeLife Rice Cooker is that the water catch really needs to be emptied regularly. I forgot to empty it out, and it was almost full even after two weeks of not being used, so do me a favor and don't forget about the condensation collector.

Govee Home

The app that controls all the Govee products is called Govee Home, and I've found it to be very user-friendly and useful. When you first get into Govee Home and click on the rice cooker, it opens up the 6 cooking modes that you have available to you, as well as the scale option in the top right corner of that section. If you have more than one of these rice cookers, you can rename it in the app as well.

If you click on one of the cooking modes in the app, you then get a few more options to choose from, setting-wise wise such as temperature, how long you want your keep warm setting on, and if you want to turn on the delay which gives you the option to choose within 24 hours when you want it to start cooking.

When you choose rice mode, you get to choose between hard and soft textures. This Govee rice cooker also comes with a system called precision rice cooking, which allows the rice cooker to automatically know how long it should cook the rice, taking into account how much rice and water you add to it. It will also ask you how warm of a temperature you want the keep warm option to heat it up to and for how long.

On the very bottom of the page in the app, you get a section that is all about recipes. This is a great way to find out exactly what this rice cooker can do, and if you click on one of the recipes and press start cooking, it will walk you through the recipe with ingredient lists, weights of those ingredients, and will even start cooking and then stop with the recipe calls for it. It leads you all the way through the recipe, and it's a great sidekick for you in the kitchen!

The Good & The Bad

GoveeLife Rice Cooker inside

The Good:

  • Larger Capacity- 5.2 qt of cooking ability makes this a great fit for larger families!

  • Govee Home- The app is versatile and competent at what it does, and makes the whole cooking process flow well together.

  • 6-1 functionality- Gives you options on how you want to cook.

  • Easy To Clean- all the accessories except the inner lid are dishwasher safe, and the pot is non-stick!

  • Scale- A very helpful feature that is included.

The Bad:

  • Longer Cooking Times- Compared to my smaller rice cooker, this one takes about 50% longer to cook 2 cups of rice.

  • Larger Appliance- Though the larger capacity is great, I do have to warn you about the larger size of the appliance, so just make sure you have room for an appliance with the dimensions of 11.42"D x 11.42"W x 11.34"H

Final Thoughts

GoveeLife Rice Cooker outside

The GoveeLife Rice Cooker has made my life easier with the versatile app that complements the workflow of cooking with this appliance. With its 6 cooking modes and the options that go along with it, this rice cooker comes at a great value because I feel for the price you pay, you will get a very competent cooker that has a lot of bells and whistles that will make it one of my most used appliances in your kitchen at least for me (it helps that I eat rice with just about everything too).

Though this rice cooker is 5.2 qt and large, it fits me and my partner's lifestyle very easily; however, we don't use more than two cups of rice at a time in this rice cooker. So all in all, yes, this would be perfect for a larger family, but even a family of two can find it worth their time and money. I love this rice cooker, and I think it will have a spot on my kitchen counter for a long time to come!
