What You Get With The Logitech G502 Hero

The Logitech G502 Hero comes with the mouse, 5 weights that each weigh 3.6g each, a logo sticker, as well as a safety/compliance/warranty pamphlet, and a little sheet of paper that tells you which website to go to get more information and support for the G502. The Logitech G502 Hero so far has been a pleasure to use. It fits my hand very well, especially with the kind of grip I always tend to use (The Claw).

 The Form

While using the G502 I haven't had very many issues, it feels great and is a perfect fit for my hand. The weight and bulkiness may feel a little cumbersome at times, especially during intense or longer gaming sessions. They do however give you the option to make it heavier by adding weights to the underside once you take the bottom panel off. This is where you can add those 3.6g weights into the mix, but I prefer using the G 502 Without them to be honest. The button management has all the buttons set so I don't accidentally hit any of them which is awesome. The thumb grip feels very comfortable and the G 502 slides on the mouse pad with ease with no catching. The hero sensor that comes with G 502 is top-notch and I haven't had an issue with it yet.

The Buttons

The Logitech G 502 Hero has 11 buttons that are customizable but I'll go through the defaults set up for this mouse. The G 502 of course has the left and right click buttons and then the middle click as well as the scroll up and down wheel that all mice have nowadays. Once you get those outta the way G4 is the back button, G5 is the forward, and then you have the DPI shift button (The target button) that will bring your DPI lower, the default for this button is set to 1200 but you can set it to whatever you like which is a neat option (help with more control for those headshots). G7 and G9 control the DPI up and down from 1200 to 6400 and as you change the DPI the light on the side will change with it, so you can keep track of which DPI setting you are on at a glance. then you have the G9 button on the top for the Onboarding Profile Cycle. Last but not least (but not programmable) is the wheel lock which locks or lets it free spin, I quite frankly love the tactile feel of the wheel once it is locked.

G hub Integrations

The G 502 connects with the Logitech software G Hub which gives you a lot of customizability from lights to profiles. With G Hub lightsync you have 6 effects to choose from as well as just about any color you wish for. You have two different categories for you to customize which are the Primary (the three lines on the side) and the logo. Once you are done setting up the lights you can go to the Sensitivity (DPI) settings and manually change your DPI there. This is where you can change your DPI shift to a lower or higher DPI which every you prefer. There is also an option on this screen that allows you to change your Report rate, which is how fast the mouse updates its movement to the Computer. The G Hub software also has an assignments window which you can open and look at all the commands, keys, actions, macros, system in the settings. This is where you can assign your programmable buttons to different commands for gaming or the use of applications.

Onboarding Profile Cycle And On-Boarding Memory Mode

The On-Boarding Memory Mode (OMM) is the setting that you have to activate on G Hub that allows you to save the profiles you made into the mouse itself so that you can use that profile even without G Hub once it's set up. You first have to make a profile or profiles in the main option screen with OMM turned off, then once you have it all made up the way you want it, turn on the OMM. Once OMM is on it should bring you to a screen where it shows you 5 profiles this is where you save the profiles you made into one of those 5 saveable profiles so you have it saved to the mouse. Once that is done you should be able to use G9 and cycle through the profiles, though if you have G Hub on your computer you have to have the OMM on to cycle through.

Conclusion

The Logitech G502 Hero is an amazing mouse that has a lot of options for you to tinker with, and I like the ability to have different profiles available through the mouse itself. I like how the buttons never seem to get in the way. The only negative that I can see for the G 502 for some is the heaviness and the bulkiness that might weigh folks down during long gaming sessions. I think that if you can get over those two things this is a great mouse for just about anybody for gaming, applications, or just surfing the web!
