The Govee Life

Govee Logo

The Govee Smart Electric Gooseneck Kettle is how I start my day as well as the way I end it! It quickly heats up my water so that I can make my coffee with my Chemex or make my evening tea. The app makes it run super smooth and the ability to connect it to wifi gives me the benefit of checking if I left the kettle on while I am away from the house.

Speaking of the App the Govee app is called Govee Home and I have found it to be very straightforward and user-friendly. It's great because it's one hub to control all your Govee appliances and lighting (if you have more of their devices). The Govee Home App showed me that there is a whole Govee ecosystem, which has made me interested in trying more Govee Products. However, let's talk about the Govee Smart Electric Gooseneck Kettle a little more:

My Experience With The Govee Kettle

Govee Kettle By Itself

The Govee Kettle has made my morning routine much more convenient and all-around more enjoyable. I've always loved using a Chemex but the hassle of putting a stovetop kettle on and having to babysit it by watching the temperature was a pain in the rear end. These issues are the reasons why I saved the Chemex for my days off. However, with electric kettles I can enjoy brewing my coffee the way I want to even if I'm getting ready to go in to work.

The bottom of the Govee is a hard plastic that never gets too hot so you can place it down without having to worry about it. The handle is insulated and counterbalanced which gives you great control over the pour. The Gooseneck spout has the ability to pour faster than any gooseneck I've ever used so be careful with that.

While I was using the Govee Electric Kettle I noticed that when I pre-wet my filter halfway through the boil cycle and then put it back on it just continued heating up the water with no fuss. I love how easy it was to use and to set the exact temperature I was looking for. Being able to hold the temperature is a game changer as well even if it can only hold temperatures of no higher than 200°F.

The Govee Kettle also has an interesting feature that automatically puts the kettle base on idle if the kettle is off the base for 3 minutes or longer. This is awesome because it normally takes me about 4 minutes to brew my coffee, so by the time I'm done the base is already in idle mode therefore I don't have to worry about turning it off.

Form & Button Layout

Govee Kettle

The Govee Kettle itself is made out of 304 food-grade stainless steel to help with taste and the handle is insulated to keep you from burning yourself. The bottom of the kettle is made of plastic which helps keep the bottom from getting too warm. On the inside of the kettle there is a max level please do NOT exceed that level.

The base has 6 little lights at the base of the kettle that allows you to know different information about how the kettle is set. Those are:

  • DIY- DIY mode which you can manually adjust in the App anywhere between 104°F-212°F

  • Green- Green Tea Mode temp target 180°F

  • Oolong- Oolong Tea Mode temp target 195°F

  • Coffee- Coffee Mode temp target 205°F

  • Black/Boil- Black Tea Mode temp target 212°F

  • Wi-fi Signal Light- Lets you know you're connected to Wi-fi

Then below that you have the 4 buttons that control the kettle when you want to manually control it and those are:

  • Hold- Allows you to hold the temp between 104°F-200°F for 30 minutes to 2 hours

  • DIY- When you press this it goes to the last DIY profile you used

  • Mode- Goes through the 4 different modes available

  • On/Off- Turns the kettle on/off

Smart Controls

Govee Kettle Base

When you get the Govee Kettle you should download the Govee Home App which gives you direct control of the kettle from your phone. It's very user-friendly and allows you to customize and set up different settings. Once you get the kettle all connected to the app you just have to hit the home button and your smart kettle should be there!

In the app, you have a lot of controls starting with the temperature gauge you have on the screen which has a dual purpose. One of those functions is that you can scroll to whatever temperature target you would like (kind of a quick DIY setting). The other purpose is that it is a gauge that tells you what temperature your kettle is currently at while it is heating up.

Then under that you have two options the scheduled start button and the power button. The scheduled start button allows you to set a certain time (within 24 hours) that you want your kettle to auto-boil water (just make sure there is water inside of the kettle). The power button is just that a way to turn the kettle on to start heating the water up or off.

Next you have your 4 preset mode buttons to choose from and right below that you have your DIY Modes. The DIY Mode is where you can customize the kettle from temperate to Infant Formula Mode. The Infant Formula Mode is when it heats the water all the way to boiling and then lets it cool down to the target temperature you choose.

On the very bottom, you have the Keep Warm option which allows you to keep the temperature at whatever target temp you set it to as long as it's at or under 200°F. Be careful with the one because once you click it on it will stay on for every boil until you manually turn it off in the app.

Now if you go to the top right of the screen where you have a gear that is the settings options. You have many options to look at in this tab from Wi-Fi settings, Notifications, Temperature Units, User guides, and much more. I would highly recommend looking into that as well.

Right below the gear, you have a mug with a clock Icon, and that brings you into the Brewing Timer settings. This setting allows you to really get into the nitty gritty of brewing from time for pouring, to brewing, to blooming it has it all in there for you to tinker with. So if you really want to get technical this is the tab for you!

The Good & The Bad

Govee Kettle On Base With Lid

The Govee Kettle is a great product that I find myself using two to three times a day however, even the best products have some con's that go along with them and this is no different. The issues I have found while using this kettle aren't that big of an issue just more of a small hindrance.

Con's-

One of the issues I have with this product is that it doesn't have a temperature gauge on the physical body. That means that when you want to know how much longer or what temperature the water is at you have to open the App. I just wish they put something on the physical body that would tell you where you where at during the boiling cycle.

The only other thing that I found an issue with but they tell you about is that it's a .8 L and I'm so used to using a 1L. I know it shouldn't be much of a difference but it is when I try brewing coffee for my girlfriend and myself and the travel mugs come a little short of being full.

Pro's-

The Govee Kettle comes with many features that I love and use every day! One of those features is that it's very user-friendly and easy to figure out, especially with the App. The App is so intuitive and the smart controls can cover just about any situation with a little tweaking.

The DIY mode is where this system really shines because of the ability to make different profiles and customize the temperature to whatever you need. The Infant Formula Mode is a great touch and that mode will heat the water all the way up to boiling and then let it cool off to the target temp you assign to it. This is great however, it will take a good while longer for it to be done, just so you know!

I really love the fact that it is Wi-Fi connected (2.4 GHz) that way you can control it from just about anywhere as well as check to make sure you didn't accidentally leave it on. That is great because I know I for one am always second guessing if I turned appliances off or not, so this put my mind at ease.

The Govee Smart Kettle System comes with a hold button that I like to use from time to time however just keep in mind it will only keep the temperature at 200°F or less. The speed at which it heats up is amazing as well, just to throw that out there. The last thing I want to talk about is how it remembers the last setting you used and keeps it there. I've used Kettles which restarts every use so you gotta set it up every time......no good.

The Govee Smart Electric Gooseneck Kettle

Govee Kettle and lid

The Govee Smart Electric Gooseneck Kettle is an amazing product and one I use every day sometimes twice a day. The ease of use and the ability to customize the kettle to fit just about any job I need it to do makes it perfect for me. It makes my morning routines that much easier which is great because most mornings it's already hard enough just to wake up and get ready.

The features that the kettle employs from Wi-Fi to DIY Mode and everything in between are very easy to implement and figure out. I never had any head-scratching moments like "How does this thing work". However, if you can get over the fact that this kettle doesn't have a temperature gauge on the physical body this may be just what you're looking for.

All in all the product is a great product and one I will be using for a long time to come. I only wish it was a little bit bigger but other than that I have no qualms with it. In fact I love this little kettle I find myself liking it even more the more I use it. So if you're shopping around for a smart electric kettle or love hot coffees or teas and are tired of using a stovetop kettle, I may have just what you're looking for!
