The Ambitful 62" Camera Tripod Review

Ambitful Tripod

I just started getting into photography about 4 months ago, and I'm always looking for accessories that will help me take better and more aesthetically pleasing photos. A good tripod is one of the essentials for great photography, at least in my humble opinion, and this is the reason I wanted to take a look at the Ambitful Tripod.

The Ambitful 62" Camera Tripod comes with a nice little carrying case that carries the tripod and an adapter for your phone if you want to go that route. The carrying case feels like it's made to be durable and has a nice strap for easy traveling. The only issue I have with the carrying case is that it only unzips about 2/3 down, so it can be a little bothersome at times.

First Impressions

Ambitful Birdeye

When I first opened the Ambitful 62" Camera Tripod, I was pleasantly surprised at how light the body of it was, which is a great feature to have if you're going to be using it and carrying it around with you all day. The legs for this tripod use a clamp system that they call a trapezoidal flap lock that extends from 22" all the way to 62". The Legs are made out of an Aluminum Alloy, which allows it to support up to 33 lbs. The way the legs get locked into place with the leg brace lock is something that some may not like because it doesn't give you the ability to customize that layout, but to be honest, I am a fan of the brace lock because it makes it into a no-fuss, easy-to-set-up system

With its skinny legs and lightweight frame, be careful using it on carpet or any other surface that has some give because it will have a little sway. If you use it on more of a solid flat surface, such as wood flooring, it sways very little, and the non-slip feet really grip tightly. I do want to be clear and make sure it is known that I have only used this tripod in studio conditions and have never used it outside on grass or rocks, so please keep that in mind.

The Ambitful Tripod gives you the ability to shoot from just about any angle you need to, which is what a tripod should do, but I was very excited about the overhead shot (birdseye) capabilities. To get that you have you to unscrew the knob (right next to the horizontal hole) that keeps the geared center column in place and take the center column completly out. Then put it in the horizontal hole where the metal divet fits (there is only one way it fits), and there you go, you now have an overhead shot.

There is also a neat little trick on how to shoot at 90° with this tripod which is undo the knob thats connected to the platform and then move it to the left so you can shoot at 90°. The other two knobs that are the one that control the movement of tripod and you can use the nifty little panhead to help you have more control. The knob on the top of the tripods legs is the one that controls the 360 rotation of the shot and the knobe on the side of the platorm controls the vertical angle of the shot.

The quick-release plate is probably one of the features I liked the least. I don't know, maybe it was just me, but I just can't seem to get it to connect very "quick". However, on a good note, once it's connected correctly, I personally haven't noticed much play at all with it, so at least there's that.

There is a feature that I really like that came with this tripod that didn't come with my old one, which is the panhead. I really love that thing, and I really didn't understand how much I liked using a panhead until I tried it. It just makes the whole situation of using a tripod a little smoother.

I did learn that because of the plastic body where the knobs are attached you have to be very careful not to over tighten them or things will break. I over tigthened one of the knobs and a bit of plastic broke off and fell, so just be very careful with that.

The Good & The Bad

Ambitful base

The Good:

  • Light Weight- With a weight of 2.7 lbs, you can carry this thing with you all day without getting tired!

  • Built-In Overhead Shot- Not many tripods in this price range have a bird's-eye shot built into it.

  • Panhead- You won't know what you're missing until you give a panhead a try!

  • Leg Brace Lock- Makes it easy to set up instead of having to play with the angles you want your feet in.

The Bad:

  • Fragility- Be very careful with the platic body of this tripod over tightening some of the knobs may make the plastic break.

  • Quick-release Plate- This quick-release system is one I always seem to have to fiddle with until I get it locked into place, which can take me a bit at times.

Final Thoughts

Ambitful carry bag

The Ambitful 62" Camera Tripod is a solid option for those who are looking for a lightweight tripod or maybe their first one. Just be careful what kind of surface you put this tripod on, because it can have some sway if you aren't careful. This tripod has some issues, but I think that when you weigh the pros and cons, you will definitely come out on top with this one.

The Ambitful 62" Camera Tripod comes with a price that's hard to beat, especially if you look at all the features you get with this product. I know the body can feel a little cheap at times with everything being plastic and whatnot, but I still think you get exceptional value with this price point!
