The Voltage:

The Porlei Wired Trackball Mouse has a heck of a learning curve if you're not accustomed to a trackball and it comes with some issues such as too low of a DPI as well as click and drag issues. However, I do find it very comfortable to use and once you get used to it very precise. If you are tired of the same ole mouse and want to try something a little different, a little more ergonomic why not give the Porlie Wired Trackball Mouse a try! Porlei TM552 Wired Trackball Mouse Review

Porlei Wired Trackball Mouse

I remember seeing trackball mouses when I was younger and always thought that it was an interesting and different way of navigating your PC. I've been getting tired of the gaming mouse and wanted to see if there were any other options out there that may work for me. So I started looking and found the old school trackball and got me a Porlei TM552 Wired Trackball Mouse. This trackball has a 1.8m cable that connects with a USB A connector (I'm very partial to the wired mouses and don't really like wireless because of the lag).

First Impression

Porlei Wired Trackball Mouse

My first time using the Porlei Wired Trackball Mouse was a bit awkward especially since I have no prior experience with this kind of mouse. I read online to give it a few days to a week to get used to it, so that is what I did. I am for sure no expert at it, but I do feel like I got a decent grasp on how it all works and I found that I'm getting quite fond of it. I love that I don't have to move my arm around like I do with a regular mouse. I do wish it had a higher DPI because I am used to using a higher DPI on a regular day to day. The reason I use a very high DPI is because I run a dual screen and a higher DPI makes it easier to get from one screen to the next. Something else I noticed while using the Porlei Wired Trackball Mouse for the first time is that my hand started getting stiff after using it for -a while because I was using my hand differently than I'm used to, but on a good note that stiffness has gone away after getting used it for a while. I think my hand just had to get acclimated to using the trackball.

Layout and Form

Porlei Wired Trackball Mouse

The Porlei Wired Trackball Mouse has a user-friendly layout where the left click is almost at the base of the left side and the right click is a wee bit to the right of the trackball. The back and forward buttons are right above the scroll wheel which is placed so you have easy access to both the left click and the scroll wheel without having to move your thumb very much at all. The mouse itself is all plastic but feels solid in the hand and is very comfortable. It has a DPI button on the bottom that cycles through 5 different DPI settings which are 200/400/800/1200/1600. The trackball is 44mm and very responsive and smooth-moving. You do however have to get used to cleaning the trackball and the sensors from time to time to make sure it stays nice and smooth. You can do that by putting your finger through the hole in the bottom to pop out the ball and clean both the ball and the sensor.

The Good And The Bad

Porlei Wired Trackball Mouse back

I always like to start with the con's just to get them outta the way, so with that said the issues I've found with the Porlei Wired Trackball Mouse is that I wish it had a higher DPI option. I've fixed this issue for myself by downloading software that increases the sensitivity of the trackball but I wish I didn't have to do that. Another issue I ran across while using the trackball is that it's really hard to click and drag. I think it is just one of the weak aspects of using a finger-operated trackball in general honestly. Something else I noticed is that the first time you use the trackball after typing or doing something else it feels a little sticky like it doesn't wanna move as smoothly but once you get it going it goes away. The way the Porlei is shaped I had to buy a wrist cushion to make it more comfortable for my arm. The Porlei is probably not the best for gaming, I mean sure you can probably get really good with it with a lot of practice but I would probably go with an optical mouse to play games.

Now to the good stuff, I have found it way more comfortable to use than the standard mouse and I feel like it is a bit more natural for me to use this trackball. I like that when you change the DPI the light flashes up to 5 times to tell you what level of DPI you are on. I do a lot of photo editing and I find myself more accurate and precise while using these applications with the Porlei. This Trackball Mouse would work great if you do not have much space on your desk because you don't move the mouse around just the ball that is on the inside. Now that I got used to using a trackball I don't know if I'll go back to an optical mouse, I may however try out a thumb trackball and see how that works for me but that'll be another day.

So Should You Try One

Porlei Wired Trackball Mouse

If you're tired of the traditional mouses and want to try something a little more comfortable then I would say give a Trackball a try. Yes, it does come with a heck of a learning curve but once you get used to it I think it'll be hard for you to go back to an optical mouse like it is for me. Then there is the comfort of using the trackball as well as I find it very precise but on the other side of that it is very easy to make a mistake using a trackball. Then there is the price, you can find them very affordable so it won't hurt the wallet too much to give a trackball a try.

Should You Get The Porlei Trackball Mouse?

Porlei Wired Trackball Mouse

When it comes to the Porlei Wired Trackball Mouse I really have come to love this mouse for sure. There are issues with it from me wanting more DPI to the difficulty of using click and drag. Knowing the positives and the issues that I came across while using the Porlei I would still purchase it today and that's saying something. The Price helps because you can pick this up for a very reasonable price. So if you want to try and go Trackball you should look at the Porlei Wired Trackball Mouse for sure!
