The Voltage:
The Kensington Expert Trackball Mouse is a great trackball that comes with an efficient and simplistic button layout, a huge 55mm trackball for more accuracy. A natural feeling scroll wheel, as well as great software to customize the trackball to really make the Kensington Expert the mouse for you. Some issues I have run across while using the Kensington is that it does not have the best comfortability since the angle your hand rests in can cause wrist pain after long use. Another issue I came across is that if you don't touch it for a bit the mouse seems to go to sleep which then takes a second for it to wake up, giving it a little lag just when you start. However, with all that said I still believe that the Kensington Expert trackball mouse is a great buy as long as you can work with those issues I brought up!
Kensington Expert Trackball Mouse Review

I've been on a mission to find a trackball mouse built for me, so that took me to the Kensington Expert Trackball Mouse. The Kensington comes with a huge 55mm ball and a four-button layout. This model is the wired one with a USB-A connection to help alleviate some of the lag issues. While using the Kensington I found some great features and some issues, so allow me the pleasure of showing y'all what I have found.
Form & Layout

The Kensington Expert Trackball Mouse is made of all plastic, but to be fair it doesn't feel like cheap plastic. It feels more on the hardy and solid side with no give in it at all. The 55mm ball is huge on this mouse which I find a great feature because it makes it very accurate while you're using it. The way to get the 55mm ball out is to just grab it and lift up, so it's very easy to take out and clean. Then there is an interesting situation known as the scroll wheel that goes around the trackball. I have a love-hate relationship with it because it really feels almost natural once you get used to it, but if you have a lot to scroll it feels slow and kinda weird to have to circle the whole ball to do it.
This Kensington comes with a wrist rest that is really very nice and attaches to the trackball. However, I do feel like this trackball is a little high so it can cause some discomfort after long use, at least it did for me. It also has 4 nonslip pads on the bottom of this trackball mouse. The button layout is very simplistic and yet efficient. It is my favorite layout for a trackball mouse that I have found, because it just works and works well. The way I hold it, my thumb is always on the left click it just feels right to me. The Kensington is also an ambidextrous design which comes in handy so that anyone can use this!
Software

I'm a sucker for software that comes with products! I find myself playing around with it much more than is probably necessary. I find it fun doing all that tweaking until I have it fit perfectly for me. Kensingtonworks is free software that allows you the ability to adjust things such as the buttons, pointer speed, and scrolling. Once you find exactly how you like your mouse set up, you can even save it to the cloud, so you can get it whenever you like.
The buttons option allows you to switch out what any of the 4 buttons do, there is even an option that allows you to customize the top 2 buttons or the bottom 2 buttons so it can do something as well. I have read that doing this can cause a bit of lag when pressing the button with the software. The Pointer option allows you to change the speed at which the pointer goes across your screen. I normally have that option pretty high since I run a dual screen and really don't feel like moving the trackball that much to get from one screen to the next.
The last option is the Scrolling which is for the scroll wheel. It helps you change the speed in which the scroll wheel around the trackball however I do not like making it any higher than the bottom speed. This is because as soon as you change it to make it go faster it makes the screen jump up and not smoothly at all. I for one do not like my screen jumping up I would prefer it move faster up in a smoother motion but it doesn't do that. That is one of my issues I have with the scroll wheel.
The Good & The Bad

One of the issues I have found with the Kensington Expert Trackball Mouse is that I find it gets uncomfortable after using it for some time because of how high it is. Then there is the fact that it seems to go to sleep if you don't touch it for a bit. This gets frustrating because once you try to move it you have to sit there a moment or keep moving the ball till it finally decides to wake up. I know it only lasts half a second but it annoys me to no end!
On to the great features of this trackball mouse! One of the things I love is that I feel like it is definitly one of the most accurate trackball I've used. This probably has a lot to do with the 55mm trackball that it uses. Then the button layout is definitely a plus because not only is it simple but it's so easy to use and I never have to guess if my finger is in the right place.
The software that comes with it is a great accessory to this whole setup. It really helps you make this trackball yours with all the customizability that it allows you to play with. Then there is the scroll wheel. I know I have some issues with it, but all in all, it's a genius way to add a scroll wheel to this product that just feels natural to use. I just wish they could add more sensitivity to it without making it jump through the page.
Is It A Good Buy

Now comes the important question is it a good buy? My biggest issue is the comfort level of this trackball being a little off because of the angle it is at. I mean the whole point of buying a trackball is for it to ease your discomfort. However, with this being said everything else from its accuracy, button layout, and it's customizability with the software that comes with it makes it a top contender in the space of trackball mouse. So all in all I think this is a great trackball mouse and one that will help you stay productive for a long time to come!
