Nothing like a nice piping hot cup of coffee in the morning to get you in the mood for get things accomplished. Yet many of us have so many things to do in the morning that brewing coffee seems like a chore we don't have time for. Out of convenience, we go to a coffee shop to pick up a coffee or latte and sometimes a muffin or something to snack on. I did a little research and a little math to find out how much brewing your coffee every day can save you and this is what I found.

Price of Convenience: The Coffee Guide

Going to your neighborhood coffee shop 5 days a week at $3 to $5 would end up being at least $60 to $100 a month just on coffee, and that's excluding the other things we treat ourselves to while we are there. There is something to say about being able to relax and enjoy your cup of coffee there at the coffee shop but most of the time I find myself grabbing the cup and taking off on my busy day.

Brewing At Home

Brewing your coffee at home at first to me seemed like a pain in the rear to be honest with you, but after starting to do it and learning different ways of brewing I came to enjoy it. Years later I find I prefer brewing at home because you personalize your coffee to the way you really like it. I love to tinker so I enjoy learning new brewing methods and seeing how it brings different flavors out or makes some of them more prominent. Try it out!

So now let's say you make a cup of coffee at home and buy a 12 oz bag for I don't know let's say $14.99. Brewing 2 cups (16 oz) of coffee a day for 5 days a week using the 1:18 ratio (1 g of coffee for every 18 ml of water) would cost you about $23 a month. All In All $60 to $100 a month is $720 to $1,200 a year compared to $276 a year if you brewed coffee at home 5 days a week. That's at least a $444 to $924 difference in your yearly budget! I'm not saying you should cut out all your visits to the lovely neighborhood coffee shop. I know I enjoy a great cup of coffee from places like that near me from time to time, but cutting some of those visits could help you save a little extra on the side!

Let me know if you think it's worth it to brew at home or worth the convenience to be able to go grab a cup on the go during your morning commute!!!
